Ontario Forest Industries Association (OFIA) has postponed its 2022 AGM and Convention, originally scheduled to take place in-person Feb. 23 in downtown Toronto.
Organizers say the worsening COVID-19 situation in Ontario has caused uncertainty around indoor events in February. While virtual is an option for the convention, the preference is for it to take place in person at a later date.
The OFIA has already released its speaker line up and the 2022 convention theme: “Growing prosperity: innovation and opportunity in Ontario’s forest industry.”
Ian Dunn, OFIA’s president and CEO, will kick off the convention, followed by an address from the Ontario government.
A forest sector market update will follow from Hamir Patel, executive director of equity research with CIBC.
This year, attendees will hear from Ikea Canada’s Cynthia Chau, who will speak on forestry, conservation and circularity.
Also on the agenda is PwC’s forestry services lead, Shawn Ellsworth, Alexander Bilyk with Silvacom, and Jamie Stephen, managing director of Torchlight Bioresources.
A panel discussion on transforming forestry supply chains will include Mark Lockhart, general manager with Nipissing Forest Resource Management, Kent Ramsay, manager with Resolute Forest Products, and Chris Walton, CEO of the Centre for Research & Innovation in the Bio-economy (CRIBE).
